A file with "4 pics in each"?
I fear I do not understand. (Do you mean " a folder with 4 pics in each"?)

You can rename folders and files.
But you can not rename the folder with the files at first.
Maybe you can sort the file list first to rename first the files and at last the folder?

Waht ever you do ALWAYS TRY with backups of your files ONLY.

If you want valid working answers please provide real file (and folder) names
and how they should look after the renaming, something like:

BEFORE:
X:\path\to\pictures
X:\path\to\pictures\pic1.png
X:\path\to\pictures\pic2.png

AFTER:
X:\path\to\London
X:\path\to\London\London1.png
X:\path\to\London\London2.png

What I want to do is

make a new folder at C:\user\desktop, with pics 4050, 4051, 4052 and 4053,

rename the folder SX901537A12

and then rename the pics

4050 to SX901537A12_(1)_CHAMBER
4051 " " _(2)_COVER
4052 " " _(3)_LOCATION
4053 " " _(4)_LOCATION

hope this is clearer, thanks.

Sorry, a file name can not contain quotes " "

Serious, You get what you ask for.

I thought more about something like:

BEFORE:
C:\user\desktop\New Folder\4050.jpg
C:\user\desktop\New Folder\4051.jpg
C:\user\desktop\New Folder\4052.jpg
C:\user\desktop\New Folder\4053.jpg

AFTER:
C:\user\desktop\SX901537A12\SX901537A12_(1)_CHAMBER.jpg
C:\user\desktop\SX901537A12\SX901537A12_(2)_COVER.jpg
C:\user\desktop\SX901537A12\SX901537A12_(3)_LOCATION.jpg
C:\user\desktop\SX901537A12\SX901537A12_(4)_LOCATION.jpg

It seams that would take at least two renaming steps anyway.

But from where should the application know about the additional part like "_CHAMBER"???
Maybe you can utilize renaming from a text file:
