Hi,

i want to rename folders on an external drive (filled with an other computer). Renaming folders with MS File Explorer the UAC promps asking for administrator rights. Say OK the renaming will be done.
Using AREN the renaming fails with "unknow Error".

Going to aren.exe and setting the compatibility mode "starting with admin rights", the renaming fails also.
AND an further error occurs: selecting folders in the file explorer and starting aren with context menu entry, the selected items will not be taken into workload list (it stays empty).

strange...

system:
Win7HomePremium32bit
AREN3.56 in portable mode (registered in system and in context menu)

AdvancedRenamer is used to rename files, not to maintenance your files system.

You should use Windows Explorer to clean-up the rights firsts on all files on your external drive.

Then use AdvancedRenamer to do the renaming on files you have full access to.

my opinion

Advanced Renamer cannot elevate itself to admin rights. I have thought about adding that feature but have not yet chosen to do so. Have you tried to right click the aren.exe and choose "Run as Administrator"?

When performing rename of files for which you does not have the right access you will experience the "Unknown error" at rename time and not at test batch time. The reason is that Advanced Renamer does not check for the correct right, because that operation is too time consuming for the program, in my opinion.

Hi,

i have the same problem.
Renaming with WindowsExplorer or TotalCommander works (without admin - rights).

Any idea?
