Hi -

I have about 300 Excel files with the following name formats:

AAA.xxx.yyy.xlsx

Where AAA is an alphanumeric name of varying length, xxx is a number of varying length, and yyy is another number of varying length.

I would like to remove the .xxx.yyy from the file names, and just have: AAA.xlsx for the resulting file names.

I can see something that maybe could remove all characters between the first and third decimal, or something that removes all numbers after the first decimal.

Can AdvancedRenamer get rid of the middle numbers?

Thanks,

AzJazz

Hi Al,

FROM:
AAA.xxx.yyy.xlsx
TO:
AAA.xlsx

You have to find a common rule over all files to tell which part to keep and which to drop.

From your explanation, I guess your rule would be:
Match one-to-many signs non-greedy till first period (dot) is found, drop the rest?

Try Replace Methode (http://www.advancedrenamer.com/user_guide/metho d_replace)

Find: (.+?)\..+
Replace: $1
[X]RegEx
Apply to [Name]

.
