Hoping to contribute to this project, I would like to report a problem I found while trying to rename files on my android phone:

1. Phone (GT-i9505, android 4.4) is connected to the PC (windows 7 64) and displayed on windows explorer
2. Open Advanced Renamer 3.64
3. Rename files -> Add -> Files... -> select the desired files on my phone (example: "Computer\galaxy s4\Phone\DCIM\Camera\xxxxx.mp4")
4. Get an error saying the files were not found (example: "1 items were not found C:/Program Files (x86)\Advanced Renamer\xxxxx.mp4")

Problem happens no matter if the device is connected as "Media Device (MTP)" or "Camera (PTP)".

I know I could just copy the files to the PC, rename and copy then back, but this would changes the file dates and, of course, would take longer.

Advanced Renamer only support regular file drives. All file paths must start with a X:\ syntax. Renaming of files located on external devices or networks paths without being mapped to a drive letter will simply not work. If you are able to map you device to a drive letter, you might be able to rename the files directly on the device.
