Intermittently Advanced Renamer will have no effect on the files in a folder. No matter what mthods I use, the new file names remain unchanged. Executing the batch indicates all files were changed successfully, but the names remain the same as before. I have checked to make sure I have name/extension selected correctly, and the files and folders are not locked or read-only in windows. I imagine there is some option that I don't have set correctly, but I can't figure out what it might be. Any suggestions are welcome,

If you have write access on the folders there should be no problem in renaming files.

Maybe you may want to consult http://www.advancedrenamer.com/user_guide/getti ngstarted for some basic infos about AdvancedRenamer?

Maybe you just have problems accessing your files.
Since you tell nothing about your environment and what you do with AR and how,
and neither how you did checked that you have write access, I am out of any guess.
Maybe you checked with evaluated WinEx and run AR as limited user, while trying
to rename files in protected folder. I have no glue if you are aware about Win7 UAC.

LOL Stefan -- if you write about what I don't know or what I left out, you may be writing a long time! You're right, I didn't give much info.

I am running AREN 3.64 on Windows 8.1
I want to remove the first four characters (JANE) from about fifty mp3 files in the same folder
I have tried "remove" 4 spaces from count 0
I have tried replacing JANE with an underscore or blank
I checked the folder properties all the way up the heirarchy, nothing is set to "Read Only"
I can change the file names in Windows File Explore
I can edit file names and mp3 tags with MP3Tag
I am using an account with administrator permissions
I checked AREN to make sure I was set to make changes to the fie name and not extension

I was doing all this before, but I went through and checked it all again before writing this note and (of course) somewhere in that process the problem went away

Thanks for your thoughts. I love the program, it saves a lot of time. Sometime it is also fun to figure out to the right methods and right sequence to to make a certain change. Somewhat like working a puzzle.

LOL, as always, isn't it ;-)

Glad you sorted that out.

Happy advanced renaming.
