Feature request: Reduce number of dialog boxes

Hello,

In my usage of Advanced Renamer, I do multiple batches one after another of a small number of files. There are three dialog boxes (Start Renaming, Progress, Information) which require interaction for every batch which is processed. Reducing the number of interactions required would be very helpful at increasing efficiency.

When starting a batch, a Start Renaming dialog box appears with the options to Rename or Cancel. Then on clicking Rename the batch begins to process and the Progress dialog box appears and remains on the screen even after the batch is complete. On completion of the batch an additional Information dialog appears which indicates Renaming has ended with 0 errors.

Perhaps an option could be added in Settings to automatically close the Progress dialog on batch completion if no error took place (but the Progress dialog would stay open if an error did take place)?

Also, it seems that the Information dialog is redundant as the Progress dialog already shows Errors found, so perhaps the Information dialog could be eliminated (or again, an option made available to disable it)?

Thank you,
Michael

Yes, I definitely agree with you.

I already submitted a few messages here, so I felt I should stop for a moment... :-)

Else I would have submitted a similar post.

Have an option to supress the zero error window in the end and automatically close dialog boxes, so users can go on with the next Rename.

The progress dialog stays on the screen after rename to allow the user to add the files to the list again. There are cases where it is necessary to add the files again and do additional renaming.
The progress of renaming files often happen pretty fast. That is why a new dialog appears to inform the user that the actions has completed.
But I do agree that there are too many dialogs when performing the actual rename. I will see what I can do to reduce the number of clicks.

Hello Kim,

Thank you for the information on why you have each of the dialog boxes. I can understand how having the progress dialog remain after rename could be helpful if the user wanted to add the files to the list again.

For users who never need that ability perhaps you would be willing to still make it an option in Settings to close the progress dialog on completion without errors, with explanation in Help about not being able to quickly add the same files to list again.

Again thank you for your consideration and for your work on this very helpful program.

Hello Kim,
BTW .. did you have any time to check out if the number of dialog boxes cud be reduced? Maybe using an optional switch to skip the 'zero errors' popup ?

thanks!

Yes, I did look into reducing the number of clicks. If you open the settings dialog you will find an option called "Auto close progress window". Check this checkbox and the progress dialog will automatically close if there are no errors after the batch process.

Thank you for adding the "Auto close progress window" option. (Also, for fixing the F9 hotkey bug).

Best regards,
Michael
