Kim has done an absolutely marvellous job writing and updating Advanced Renamer. The 'User Guide' is quite comprehensive, and you can learn a lot from it. RegExp are explained in a very comprehensive manner, and the JS scripting adds an enormous amount of power. That said, don't expect more than renaming! Folders, Files - yes, they can be renamed in ways you never imagined. Files can be moved, EXIF data extracted, Tags extracted and used in new filenames. But remember that AR is a RENAMER! If you need more, then you'll have to find a program to do the job you are after. For RENAMING, you just can't go past Advanced Renamer!

I totally agree, AR is an excellent program and well documented. What's the best way to advise about by issues with the User Guide? I know it's a challenge to keep it up to date, but I found some small things and wondered how to feed back ... Also, AR v3.80 has the Metadata tab. This enables some editing of the EXIF data etc. This was why I have recently asked how to process this in a batch manner, using variables rather than entering data manually. I can't find any reference to this Tab in the User Guide .... Regards, Mark |

I really would like to extend the user guide with more content. But it can be difficult for me to determine which parts need more documentation. If you find an area of the program with poor documentation or none at all, please write me an email.
I would also like to add more renaming examples to the guide. Any good ideas? |

Documentation : I'll send you an email, sometime :) Renaming examples : via a Forum post or by email? The former may generate more feedback. Regards, Mark |

Renaming example : actually, answering Forum questions gives a good indication what maybe should go in the documentation .... question and answer ready supplied! Brian answered a tricky one, recently .... so maybe "standard" and "complex" examples ..... |
