Save original file names

Is it possible to rename a batch of files but also generate a list of the original file names linked with the new file names?I want to shuffle my files and rename them, but then be able to go back and find out the original names of the files after I have analysed the data they contain.

My solution (which is not exactly an answer to your question) is that I put the original filename in between brackets at the end of the new filename.
This is a quite easy solution, maybe also suitable for you?! |
