Renaming pdf files based on a xref'd list

I have a couple of hundred pdf statements, which are generated with random numbers for filenames. We need to rename them with an account number, source and statement period. Something like: 123456_Jones_09-2018.

I see how the list method works, but I need to be sure that the account numbers match the statements. If the list I upload is in a different order than the files in the folder, they they could be named incorrectly.

Is there a way to index or cross reference the file names to avoid misnaming if they are in the wrong order?
