Hi-

I had an issue when I copied thousands of photos from one hard drive to another during a crash. It seems as though many of the files came over with a .PTL file extension, rendering them useless. I've located all files on every directory and would like to change the extension back to jpg. If possible, step 2 would be to make them easier to identify as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks-

Gene

You mean something like

NewName: JPG
Apply to: Extension

or

Replace: PLT > JPG
Apply to: Extension

?

I actually tried both ways. I thought the easiest way was to just replace <ptl> with <jpg>. It didn't work.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I was able to locate all the bad (PTL) files so it shouldn't be too difficult to change the. I've just been unsuccessful with everything I've tried. All I would like to do is make Picture125.PTL Picture125.jpg.

Every time I go into add or replace method, I can't get the file extension to change.

Can you successfully rename one file using windows explorer
after selecting such an 'Picture125.PTL' file and pressing F2-key?

If yes, tell us more info about your system (Win7? UAC on? File location)

.

Yes I can manually rename them in explorer one at a time.

The pictures are in a folder such as: c: my pictures/horse racing/stakes races

Windows 7 is the operating system.

OK, then it has nothing to do with UAC.
Which ARen version do you use?

Why not?
What happens instead?
What do you do exactly?, listing all involved steps you have done could help to track it down.

It works for me with AR 3.52

* add the files to the list
* add method NEW NAME
--- [ jpg]
--- Apply to [Extension]

I get an "error": Extension changed. But that is an hint only!

* I click at START BATCH and then START and then YES on the extension change warning
and then the files are removed from the file list (this last part can be changed in the settings)

* If i take an look into the files directory i can see the extensions are changed.
