Batch mode: Rename, copy, and move

Batch mode determines what Advanced Renamer does when you click Start batch. Choose Rename, Copy, or Move from the Batch mode list above the item list. Renaming methods are used to calculate the new filenames in all three modes.

Rename
Changes the names of the original files or folders in their current location. No copies are created and the items are not moved to another folder.

Copy
Creates copies in the selected output folder. The original files or folders remain unchanged in their current location. The copies use the new filenames calculated by the active renaming methods.

Move
Transfers the original files or folders to the selected output folder. The moved items use the new filenames calculated by the active renaming methods and no longer remain in their original location.

Output folder
When Copy or Move is selected, an Output folder field is shown. Enter the destination folder or choose one using the folder button. You can use tags in the path to organize items into dynamically generated subfolders. Advanced Renamer creates folders that do not already exist.

For example, this pattern organizes files into folders based on their creation year and month:

C:\Sorted\<Year Created>\<Month Created>

Before starting the batch, review the New Filename and New Path columns to confirm the result. If the destination already contains an item with the same name, the selected name collision rule determines what happens.
