Bug in "Remove type: Position"
The bug:
Count
"If the count is larger than the number of characters left in the filename, all characters from the starting position will be removed."
This does not work in Backwards Mode

That does indeed seem to be a problem. If you haven't already, you should email support (link above). In the meantime, if you need a workaround...
Say you want only the last 10 characters, you can use a New Name method with:
<Name:1:11:0>
Change the last number to move the starting point.
