file limit
The program doesn't start if I select more than about 285 files. As far as I have read the limit should be 25000. Any ideas?

Hi Jim,
I don't know what to tell you other than to check the setting for file limit ("Options / Settings / Program / Item limit: ). The default is 25000 but it might have been inadvertently set to some lower figure.
Beyond that I don't have a clue. I'm set for 25,000 files and it takes them, no problem. What version are you using?
Best,
DF

Same here, my limit is 260 items. They come from Windows Search and are added to ARen via the context menu.

Hi Styb, how's it going my friend!
That's so weird. What about if you drag from explorer to Aren? That's pretty much the only way I ever do it and I've never seen any limit but he 25000...
Cheers!

Hi DF,
I have no problem adding the files by dragging and dropping or using the Add command within the program.
It is only when I add the files using the right-click menu that I experience the limitation.
Can you test your context menu?

Hi Styb and DF.
I haven´t had any problem. I have used dragging and droping and the Add command within the program without any problem. Also have used the right click without any problem.

I don't have ARen in the context menu. A while back I installed a program that changed various look-and-feel things in Windows and now my context menus just do whatever they want. I also can't add, change or remove columns in Explorer. ?

I think it's a limitation of the right-click. Kim will have the solution.

The more I think about it the more I believe I read somewhere that there was a problem with the context menu handler dealing with more than a small amount of files. I think that's your answer, just drag-and-bop! :)

Hi Styb.
You are right. I just ran another test, this time with 1,000 files, and indeed, it does not load the files. Not even Aren loads.
The previous test I conducted with 300 files worked perfectly. I tried loading the 1,000 files all at once, but it failed. Then, I attempted loading 100 at a time, and the error appeared when reaching 782 files. Quite a strange number.
However, if you load them directly from Aren or drag them into Aren from the explorer, it works.

The right click "Add to Advanced Renamer" is rather limited. It will open the program with the path of each file as a parameter. I think there is a character limit of 32k or 64k. If the files are nested deep in a long path name, you will hit the limit quickly. Previous versions did have a better implementation, but I did not spend the necessary time needed to maintain this feature.
I have never been a fan of the "Add to PROGRAM NAME" or "Open with PROGRAM NAME" right click features. If you have a couple of programs installed with such features, your Explorer right click will get very long. I prefer drag and drop over custom Explorer right click menu items.
