Future Request for File deletion
Hello, I want to request somewhere in the future we can get an option to actually delete files in a list. I thought I was able to do this in the past, but couldn't find any option to do this. I do understand this is a Renaming program. I request this because I have had more than a few instances where I had many duplicate files with those parenthesized numbers (##) I wanted to just delete from a list of files.
If there is an option to do this could someone share it? I checked the Learn section on the website and did not see anything in regards to deleting files from a list. I am getting a bit old, so please excuse me if it exists.
Thanks for any help on this request.
Sincerely,
AJ

Hi again AJ,
There's no way I know of to delete a file, or even move it to the Recycle Bin, but there is a way to simulate it. I keep folders, each called "#recycle", on my work drives. When I find a quantity of files with similar filename attributes that I want to delete I drag all the appropriate*folders* to ARen, use the "Add Folder" pop-up dialogue box to only load the files that match my needs. Set the batch mode to "move" and the Move to: field to "\#recycle" (without quotes). That way it's easy to check the files that are moved before *actually* deleting them. And if you know some javascript you can set up a script to choose which files to move instead of using move batch mode (which only moves *all* files in the list). That way you don't have to pre-select ONLY the files you want, but can drag whole folders of files.
Best,
DF

Thanks DF, Again, That may be a bit much for me at this time although I have programmed for over 30 Years.. lol.. I don't spend much time in ARan, but every time I use it, it is normally for big bulk modifying. With that said, i love the program, They really got ARan set aside from my previous rename type programs due to the Eye-Catching function/Feature to use Methods on Folders.
Ok, I went on a rant about ARAn.. lol.. sry bout that. Anyhow, with all the great features it has, I just hope they will actually implement a Delete feature instead of the user having to go through multiple steps as you kindly described.. Just a bit much with all the stuff i have going on at the time. But, i really appreciate the workaround. I would just hope the developers consider that this is a feature/function request I believe would be VERY helpful for its users. IMO.
Anyhow, Thanks for the help. When I have time I may TRY what you suggested. Thanks Much!

I'm pretty sure Kim, the designer, has a strong bias NOT to implement anything in ARen that would allow deletion of files directly. One of the selling points of ARen is the undo feature, which would be negated if a delete function was implemented. You literally can't delete a file in ARen, and that is intentional.
I suggest you look at the myriad programs that can be used to do that, and are designed for it. I like Directory Opus, a great File Explorer replacement, but it's a complex program and not particularly intuitive (in my opinion). There are lots of others though. You might want to try the program "Everything" by VoidTools, a powerful free file finder so you can gather the files you want using regular expressions or a Windows wild-card-like syntax.

Also DF, I had to dig a bit, but I was able to find a dedicated Delete Multiple Files program on my PC. Of coarse i won't name it out of respect for ARen, although, I understand it is primarily for Renaming only. I would really love it, even more, if we could get that delete feature added at some early future date. lol.
