INSERTING Date Modified in front of Orig file name - Forum

I need to BULK auto rename (since I have a ton of photos) based upon the DATE MODIFIED which seems to be the only part of the metadata that survived with all my messed up photos.

I could not figure out how to do this.

Can anyone provide me step-by-step instructions on how to bulk edit image files and INSERT the DATE MODIFIED in front of the ORIGINAL file name? This way, the file name will be unique and will not clash with the program.

Hi.
Once you have loaded all your files into ARen select New Name method.

New Name: <ExifTool:FileModifyDate> <Name>

The <ExifTool:FileModifyDate> will insert the Modified Date and <Name> the original name.

Instead of using the slow ExifTool method, I would instead use:
<Date Modified:yyyy-mm-dd_hh-nn-ss> <Name>
or
<Year Modified>-<Month Modified>-<Day Modified>_<Hour Modified>-<Min Modified>-<Sec Modified> <Name>

Can you believe I was looking for that option in the Image tab? It didn't occur to me that it was in the Time tab.

Would you mind telling me how to do your suggestion in a step-by-step instruction? I mean, I don't even understand the whole whole loading step as I find this interface perplexing.

I will try to guide you as easily as possible. These instructions are based on version 3.95.
Once you have loaded the program you must add the files. For this you have several possibilities. Add a folder or add files.

Once you have selected your desired method you will see something similar to this:

Once you have imported the files you must apply the desired method to them. In your case it would be "New Name"

Once selected the New Name method you will see this:

Copy "<Date Modified:yyyy-mm-dd_hh-nn-ss> - <Name>" (without de quotes) and paste it in the input area.
