Why does AR want to shut down explorer.exe during installation?
As title really.

Hi Kath,
the explorer shutdown is required if you are updating the pre-existing ARen installation, the explorer shutdown is required to replace the .dll library file used for the context menu entry.
I'm not a programmer, but I think Kim has no interest in improving the .dll library. :)

That is correct. The context menu requires a dll to be registered with explorer.exe. When the program is updated while context menu is enabled, explorer has to be restarted.
I probably could program it to disable the menu before install and enable it again afterwards. But to be honest, I am not a fan of the explorer context menu. I am a drag and drop person.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Makes sense.
As it happens, I didn't allow it to stop explorer, and it all still works fine, although perhaps its using the context menu entry from my previously installed version.
