Is it possible to match file names to another file type?

Ok so i am a 3D artist and I have a folder whereby there are 3D models (lets say 10 of them) and there are 10 corresponding images that show a preview of these models. What I want to do is ensure the filenames of the images are exactly like the 3D models.
So for example - the 3D models name is PLANT-01 and the image preview of that is PLANT_01_preview - what i want to do is change the name of each image to match that of the 3D model name exactly - is this possible? In most cases there are matching letters in both 3D model filename and corresponding image - is this possible?
