Rename incremented names

Hi,
I have a set of files looking like:

[Fixed nameA][Fix nameB][01].[variable caracters].extension of the file

I want to replace the caracter dot "." by something else, but without changing the "." that is just before the file extension.

The usual replace approach do not wotk because it would also change the file extension delimiter..

Do you know how to proceed ?
