Im trying to organise over 2000 photos into folders based on the year/month they were taken. I found out how to do this by using tags in the folder name, however, when it shows the destination folder for some, it appears that its not reading the exit info.

eg...

c:\pictures\holidays\2012\MAR
c:\pictures\holidays\\

I can verify this as when I select the file, the info at the bottom does not display the date taken, yet, when I veiw the properties of the file, I can quite clearly see it contains the same information as the files whose info is being recognised.

The only difference I can see, is that these particular images are taken with a HTC smartphone, whilst the ones the seem to work ok, were taken with a Samsung!

You can see 2 file properties, and view the Date Taken info, but only the Samnsung info is visible in the app... Reading other posts, this has been put down to manufacturer inconsistencies (which I can understand!). Is their anyway to "easily" remedy this?

Are you able to send me one of the files that Advanced Renamer cannot read date/time information from? Then i can try to debug and see what is going on and maybe find a fix.

After some further testing, something odd seems to be going on...

The pc with all the photos on is Windows 7 64bit, which displays the missing exif info, yet on Windows 8 64bit, when I access files via a network share to the W7 machine, the info displays correctly!

If you still need image, let me know....

The selected image is the same in both screens.. the one on the right is the W8, and the left W7.

UPDATE:

Ok, so I went through and checked settings in both apps on both PCs... The W7 had the following setting:

SETTINGS>IMAGE FILES>Exif field for image date: DATE TAKEN

The W8 had the setting DATE DIGITIZED

Whenever I had DATE TAKEN, the exif info for the Date Taken was BLANK. It was only when it was set to DATE DIGITIZED was the correct info there, and no other problems.

Ive repeated this test several times on my W8 pc, using the same image file. When the app is restarted between changing, DATE TAKEN produces a missing Date Taken field... If the app was originally on DATE DIGITIZED the info is there, then if you change to DATE TAKEN without restart, you can still see the info; but if you then close app and re-open, confirm DATE TAKEN is still the setting, the info is missing.

Hope that makes sense..!

Wjat dpes DATE DIGITiZED refer to?

The Image Date/Time is read from one of the 3 fields when the file is added to the list. When changing the setting without restarting, the Image Date/Time is not reread from the file.

As I read your post you get consistent results when you use the Date Digitized field? But faulty results with Date Taken?

The screenshot highlights exactly the same file.. but on the right is with Date Digitized, and on the left is Date Taken. Strangely further down the list on the left, images show the correct info. They were taken with a different device.
