Mr. Jensen:

Advanced Renamer is by far the best files and folders renaming application. I'm using it for years and I'm very grateful for your great work.

But I have a problem: when I select some files or folders in Windows Explorer, right-click and select Add to Advanced Renamer, the application panel comes up with no files or folders in the list. Sometimes pops up an error message: Access violation at address 00521D54 in module 'ARen.exe'. Read of address 00000048, or Access violation at address 008F20E0 in module 'ARen.exe'. Read of address 00000008. But sometimes there is no error message at all.

After that, I can drag and drop the files to ARen and everything works...but not with the context menu.

Now I'm using ARen 3.58 Portable in Windows 8 64-bit, but I have that problem since I was using version 3.53 Portable in Windows 7 64-bit.

I think the problem is not ARen, but Windows configuration or another application, because ARen works well in my office PC (with Windows 7 64-bit) and I face the problem in my home PC (with Windows 8 64-bit).

Could you help to solve this? Sorry for my english...

I am glad you have found Advanced Renamer to be a good tool for your use. I have heard about the problems with the context menu on 64 bit systems but have yet to experience the problem myself and find a solution for the problem. I have tested this on different computers with 32 and 64 bit version of Windows 7 and Windows 8 and have not experienced the problem myself. Something must be different on the systems were the problem is happening.

If you can answer these questions it might help me determine what might be the cause of the problem.
1. Does the error happen with just one file or only with many files?
2. Are the files located on the local hard drive?
3. Is Advanced Renamer installed on local hard drive C:?
4. Does it take a long time for Advanced Renamer to start?
5. What is the language of your operating system? (English or other)
6. Does the filenames or folder path of the files you try to add include any special characters not normally used in the English alphabet?

Thank you very much for paying attention to my problem. The answers to your questions:

1. Does the error happen with just one file or only with many files?

The error occurs with one file or folder and also with many of them.

2. Are the files located on the local hard drive?

It happens with files and folders located on local and also on external hard drive.

3. Is Advanced Renamer installed on local hard drive C:?

No. I have 2 hard drives, in one of them I have 2 partitions: C: and D: Windows 8 64-bit is installed on C: and ARen 3.58 Portable is in a folder on partition D:

4. Does it take a long time for Advanced Renamer to start?

No.

5. What is the language of your operating system? (English or other)

Spanish.

6. Does the filenames or folder path of the files you try to add include any special characters not normally used in the English alphabet?

No.

As I said, I think the problem is not ARen, but Windows configuration or another application, because ARen works well in my office PC (with Windows 7 64-bit) and I face the problem in my home PC (with Windows 8 64-bit). I have a lot of programs installed and also a lot of portable utilities. Maybe the problem is related to one of them, but I don't know which one.

I hope you will find a solution. Thank you very much in advance.
