How can I get my old version back? I just updated to 4.03 or something like that, and not only is the interface totally different, but things don't work right!
For example, I'm trying to rename files inside a whole bunch of folders. When I try to select all the folders, the OK button is greyed out! If I select each one individually using CTRL instead of Shift, the button is NOT greyed out, but I have HUNDREDS of folders to do, and it's not practical to have to click each one! |

Hyperbole aside, version 3.95 (the available NON-BETA release) is on the Download page. If you use portable versions you can always keep older versions. I have 3.88, 3.94, 3.95 and 4.03 installed no problem. I've never used the menu to add files or folders so I can't really help you with your problem. Except to tell you to use drag and drop from whatever Windows File Explorer type program you use. It's faster and you have more control. Good luck. DF |

The OK button not being enabled when multiple folders are selected is a bug and will be fixed soon. Version 4.x has been out for 2 months, but no one noticed and reported this until a couple of days ago. Until a fix is out I will suggest to use drag and drop from Windows Explorer. |

DF: Version 4 is out of beta. There is currently no beta or preview releases. But version 3.xx is still considered the main version branch and the most stable. I expect version 4 to become the official version around the end of the year. |

Good to know, Kim, thanks. Although if you consider 3.95 the most stable that's really just semantics, isn't it? :) |

While version 4 was in beta it was just for testing and for the most curious users. If a person is just starting out with Advanced Renamer, I will now suggest using version 4, because that user will not experience any compatibility problems and version 4 will be considered the stable version at some time. That is where I see the difference between the beta and the non-beta. |

Thank you. I hope it gets fixed soon. I didn't know it was possible to drag and drop from Windows Explorer, but that would actually be easier for me, so I'll try that. |

Hello, my test of Advanced Renamer is really going bad. Sometimes the program will rename a file and the next instance the same file will not be renamed. After restarting the PC it is going okay for two tests but then again no renaming or unidentified errors. Is there a relation to the fact that i am not registered? My faith in the program is below zero at this point.

Hi John, No, it shouldn't make a difference whether registered or not. What version are you testing? Have you tried the other version (if using 3.95, try 4.03, for instance). It would be helpful to see what you are trying to do. Any chance of including a screenshot or two from, for instance, Google Drive? Or at least include your settings on the method(s) that aren't working. Otherwise I suggest you get in touch with Kim at Support: https://www.advancedrenamer.com/support We'll be glad to help, but you just haven't given us much to work with here... Oh, and in future I'd suggest starting a new thread for your problem even though it sort of fits in with an older one, just to keep problems delimited accurately. And don't give up on ARen, it works really well for a lot of people! (And in 20-something years of using bulk renaming programs I haven't found anything quicker or more versatile. :) Best, DF |
