Renaming jpg's in a merged file from two different cameras

I have 450 jpg's from two different camera manufacturers that I was able to merge successfully in Windows 7 because the cameras were synchronized to the minute with the time date stamps. They are merged in the folder for making a slide show but when I burn the DVD they separate back into two separate files, my wife's pictures and mine throwing the whole show into two different shows chronologically, hers going from start of trip to finish and mine following doing the same thing. What method do I use to keep this merged photo file in order? Windows wants to separate the files every time.

If the files in the folder have the proper time stamps and that's the order you want, there's no reason for the DVD burning software to change that order. Which burning software are you using? Some allow you to change the order manually, but that may be a daunting task if you have hundreds of files.

To preserve the same sequence on the DVD I'd rename the files so that the file name is actually the complete time/date stamp (to the second). In the User Guide the following example is provided which should avoid the problem you describe (you can change punctuation as you please).

<IMG Year>-<IMG Month>-<IMG Day>_<IMG Hour>-<IMG Min>-<IMG Sec>.<Ext>

The above assumes that the EXIF info in your jpegs is accurate. The time/date stamp of the file and EXIF time/date may not necessarily be the same. If you're using the file time/date stamp to rename your files, instead of EXIF info, that may be causing your problem.

First of all Max thank you for replying, I really appreciate and need the help. My DVD burner is a nine year old HP DVD Writer 640c ATA device. Operating Windows 7. The jpgs are all merged in my extra working folder (didn't want to accidentally mess up the original merged file folder so I made a duplicate to work off of) but calling up those jpgs to the Add Files they show up as separated when they appear. My wife's pictures are from a Cannon Elph listing as IMG_001 thru IMG_0872 and my pictures are from the Olympus EPL1 and list from P2075790 thru P2267359, 455 pictures in all. IMG files are in chronological order as are the P files, only they separate when anywhere other than in MY Pictures. It does me no good to rename I don't believe when they come up in separate blocks. I really do not want to have to rename 455 pictures just to keep them in order and won't give up until I find a solution, yea or nay. We both take pictures on trips and my wife has pictures I don't have that are pertinent to the journey as it unfolds in a slide show. I also will need to purchase a good software program for that as I somehow lost the original Roxio My DVD program that came with the desktop when new. It probably is in the backup disks I made when I first plugged it in but haven't had time to try and recover it and that's another story. I guess I first need to get this merged folder to the Renamer and if I could do that I would be able to probably burn a DVD without the renamer. I am going to try and add a folder file rather than highlighting the 455 files and clicking "open" and see what happens then but in the meantime I am showing two beginnings and
two ends of a very nice China trip to all of our friends. This is a tough one, hope we can resolve it as there will be other trips and events. John
