According to this site there is a possibility that TVrage.com isn't coming back

Yeah, I also realise that. I think the next step is for me to change the program to use another service. Are you aware of any other service like TVrage.com? It might take some time to change the program to use something else.

I don't know of any myself but I use XBMC (X-Box Media Center)and I know that there is quite a few plugins that look up information on Movies and TV shows in their database.

It might be worth checking out to see if there are some that might work for your program

I know I've been using this program to do a lot of renaming lately and I hope you can get it that part of it working again soon

Or setting up the program to use multiple databases and the users could choose which database they want to use.

http://www.imdb.com/
http://www.themoviedb.org/
http://www.tvmaze.com/api
http://thetvdb.com/
http://epguides.com/
http://www.tv.com/

and maybe one or 2 others that are out there. I will add them to this list as people suggest them so they are all in one place.

But first get it up and running with 1 of the databases and then add a couple more choices afterwards.

Exactly, I tried a different program as I have a bunch of stuff I need renamed, and man it was horrible... it uses different databases, but it requires it to be named as I want it renamed, ie. it doesn't take 01. pilot and make it into exactly how i want it renamed :(

I must say, Advanced Renamer has been a savior to me and I look forward to see where it goes from here!

Keep up the good work!

It is a good idea to add more sources. That way I will not remove tvrage as a source, in case it comes back online. I am looking into a couple of solutions. Unfortunately it might take me a couple of weeks before I have something to release online.

You could also consider using thetvdb.com, as it's used by many tv/movie renamers out there, for eg. renamer, epnamer or filebot, just to name a few. But I must say that your application works the best for me and it's a shame it's no longer functional with tvrage down :(

Firstly, thank you for such a great program! It's such a pain that tvrage.com is down for so long, and looks like it's just disappeared :S

I'm looking forward to an update to allow me to rename episodes again.

Below is a message that "Jan" posted on a forum where people were asking what happened to tvrage.com... it sounds like they have designed their API to be compatible with tvrage... If the developer of AdvancedRenamer isn't planning to release a fix for this any time soon, is there a way to edit my HOSTS file or something to make AdvancedRenamer get the data from TVMaze rather than TVRage?

----------

My name is Jan. I'm one of the founders of TVmaze. We reached out regarding using our service as a fallback.

We also offer an API that contains a mapping between TVmaze and tvrage ID's. This would make it possible to automatically convert tvrage links to TVmaze, or automate a variety of other tasks. (For more information here is a detailed list of all the endpoints we are currently providing.

EDIT/UPDATE:
I'm so desperate to be able to use AR to rename my tv shows, I've even asked this question on TVMaze's forum: http://www.tvmaze.com/threads/384/tvragecom-and -advancedrenamer

I have today successfully integrated Advanced Renamer with TVMaze. The integration will be released in the next upcoming release. I hope to release within a week.
Almost everything works as with TVRage. There are two minor problems:

1. TVMaze doesn't yield the number of seasons when searching shows. This value is only used to show in the GUI, so it is not very important.

2. TVMaze doesn't have a value for the EpisodeSequence tag. Instead I have tried to calculate the value based on the number of episodes returned, but this might not always work.
For those who doesn't know this value: For a show with 10 episodes per season, the EpisodeSequence number of season 2 episode 3 will be 13. I think most people use season number and episode number, and will not be affected by this problem.

I have also made changes that makes it easier to add additional sources in the future. At first only TVMaze will be available, but others might be added later.

Happy to hear you were able to work out a fix! Any update on when we can expect a release?

As a side note (that probably belongs in another thread, I'll find the right spot for it), what are the chances of adding a keyboard shortcut to access the import tv show menu?

First thank you for the new version! Great to be able to rename TV-shows again.

But when I tried to rename eps of Revolution, I'm not able to find the show in the tv import feature.
Any ideas why?

I am able to search for that show. But I must admit there is a bug. When multiple shows are found, the first show is shown several times, while omitting the rest. A fix will be released soon.
