Renaming file pairs that don't match

I was wondering if there was a way to pair files that don't have the exact same name yet.

example:
ActRaiser.cht
ActRaiser (U) [!].smc

change to:
ActRaiser (U) [!].cht
ActRaiser (U) [!].smc

I want to be able to add the extra info to the first file so that both names match. I would do it manually if it wasn't hundreds of files.
