First off, let me say that this is a really nice piece of software. Thanks for putting it together.

I found this while trying to piece together an Excel interface to rename a collection of files in a folder based on a very long set of masks, which my boss is using in his research. Very helpful!

However, it seems that I can't get the -destination switch to work at the command line. Whenever I run arenc.exe, the files are copied and renamed correctly, but always placed in the same folder as the source files.

For example (sorry it's long -- it's auto-generated in Excel using absolute paths):

"C:\Users\Jeff\Documents\Work\File Renamer\Advanced Renamer\arenc" -execute "C:\Users\Jeff\Documents\Work\File Renamer\Renaming Methods\Put MRN First.aren" -mode copy -path "C:\Users\Jeff\Documents\Work\New folder\" -destination "C:\Users\Jeff\Documents\Work\Other\" -log "log.txt" -regex "[0-9]{8}_[0-9]{4}_[0-9]{7}\.(xml|lsx)"

In this case, files from "C:\Users\Jeff\Documents\Work\New folder\" are copied inside that folder, rather than being moved to "C:\Users\Jeff\Documents\Work\Other\".

Is there any kind of workaround for this? Is there something I can do in the meantime to be able to copy my renamed files into a different folder? If not, I can live with it, but I'm sure my boss would like to keep things tidy.

Let me know if I can give you any further information.

Thanks!

EDIT: Having spent a little longer playing with this, the output folder or destination features don't seem to be working at all for the Forms application nor the console application. Is it possible there's something wrong with my install?

FYI, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, and I'm currently testing Advanced Renamer 3.50 Portable.

This seems odd. This is one of the last things I tested before uploading the final release. But maybe there is something in your setup that makes your case significantly different than my test case. I will look into the problem tonight and if I find a fix I will implement it and upload a new version.

To make it easier for me to investigate, could you send me the "Put MRN First.aren" file by e-mail? You can find my e-mail address by using the Support menu item on this page.

Normally I would recommend trying to reproduce the problem in the previous version (http://www.advancedrenamer.com/down/advanced_re namer_portable_3_24.zip) but I don't think the .aren file produced in 3.50 is backward compatible.

Thank you for the batch method file. It helped me track down an issue when using copy or move mode. I have released a version 3.51 which can be downloaded from the download page. Tell me if this solved your problem.

Hi

I came across your software when looking for a utitlity to organise my files. Nice Job!

However I havent been able to make the copy/move batch modes work either and have just tired with version 3.51

At its simplest I have tried to copy f iles from one directory to another but all files error with 101. I have noticed that the new path column never updates.

Perhaps it is me but any pointers would be gratefully received

No problem :-). Based on the files you sent me by e-mail it was easy to find and solve the problem.

Btw. it is great to see that you use regular expressions. Most users find regular expressions too advanced for daily use.

There can me many reasons for this problem. You have to make sure you have write permissions for both the source files and the destination folders. Sometimes there are also problems if the files are located on an external drive. If you send me the method list saved as a .aren file and a screenshot of Advanced Renamer when you experience the problem, I will look into the problem and find out if it is a bug or if I can help you in any other way.
